LUCIA, Monterey County — October 28, 2026. Motorists traveling on Highway 1 south of the Lucia area should watch for construction traffic control at the Limekiln Creek Bridge. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) lists core drilling from Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, as part of its published October 25–31 Cone Zone Report.
What restrictions are listed?
TAMC describes alternating one-way traffic control along the south end of Limekiln Creek Bridge, continuing to the end of the structure, generally from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The agency says motorists may encounter delays of approximately 10 minutes. That number is a schedule estimate, not a live prediction for an individual trip.
Why do crews drill cores at a bridge?
Core drilling is a method for examining physical material or site conditions, often used in engineering investigation and preparation for repairs. The regional traffic notice identifies the work type but does not state the results, contractor or next construction phase. It therefore would be inaccurate to announce that the bridge is being rebuilt or has already passed a new inspection based solely on this traffic notice.
Is Highway 1 closed all day?
The published notice concerns an alternating one-way movement, not an announced full closure of all travel through Lucia. Other segments of Highway 1 may have separate closures or restrictions, particularly following major fires and slope damage. Weather and operating conditions can shift the schedule. Never bypass traffic controls or rely on this archived schedule as proof of conditions at a specific hour.
Where to check live access
Motorists can consult TAMC’s weekly Cone Zone Report, Caltrans QuickMap and the responsible highway agencies before traveling through remote coastal areas. Cell service may be limited, so download directions and bring sufficient supplies for possible delays.
