LUCIA / SOUTH COAST, Monterey County — October 30, 2026. Residents following coastal land-use applications near Lucia and farther south have a county advisory calendar worth checking before mid-November. Monterey County’s published 2026 Land Use Advisory Committee (LUAC) schedule lists Tuesday, November 10, as the next scheduled South Coast committee date. The published meeting place is Pacific Valley School, 69325 Highway 1, Big Sur, with a regular start time of 10 a.m.

However, the county says the South Coast committee meets as needed. A date in the annual calendar is not proof that a meeting has been called, that a quorum will attend, or that a particular project will be discussed. Before traveling Highway 1, residents should consult the actual agenda, verify the location and check road conditions. California58 has not independently confirmed that an agenda for November 10 has been issued.

Which part of the coast is represented?

According to the county’s committee membership page, the South Coast Land Use Advisory Committee covers the area from Anderson Creek south to the Monterey–San Luis Obispo county line. The neighboring Big Sur Land Use Advisory Committee addresses the more northerly stretch from Malpaso Creek to Anderson Creek. The county’s historical land-use materials identify Lucia and Gorda as separate detailed coastal planning areas; property-specific committee jurisdiction should still be checked against the official boundary map.

The advisory structure matters because development proposals on this dramatic stretch of coastline can raise questions about land-use compatibility, public access, environmental constraints and rural roads. LUACs provide local review and recommendations in the county planning process. Their meetings are not the same as final county approval of a project or permit.

Who’s on the South Coast committee?

Monterey County’s 2026 roster lists Harry Harris as chairperson and John Handy as secretary, with Lindsay Romanow, Constance McCoy, Kathleen Novoa and Colleen Wilson among the members. The roster identifies planning commissioners and county planning staff liaisons separately. The published terms and committee assignments can change; residents should use the official roster for current contacts rather than assume the list remains fixed indefinitely.

How to find a real meeting agenda

Effective in 2025, Monterey County says LUAC agendas are published through the county’s Legistar public-meeting calendar. Look for the South Coast committee and the relevant date. A genuine agenda should identify projects, staff and participation details. The county committees and hearings page provides the calendar, boundary references and information on how to ask planning staff questions. For general LUAC agenda questions, the county lists CaroC@countyofmonterey.gov.

Coastal residents planning to attend in person should allow for Highway 1 traffic restrictions and should not assume the route is unrestricted solely because a meeting date is listed. For the latest roadway status, check Caltrans QuickMap.

What remains unconfirmed?

The annual calendar does not itself establish a November 10 agenda, project list, permit hearing, final decision or public-comment format. Do not circulate the meeting as definitely occurring until county staff posts the agenda or confirms it. The information here is a public-service explanation of where to look and which committee serves the south coast, not a report that an application has been approved.
